Everybody is on the lookout for their dream home. Before I met the Meter Maid I thought I’d found mine in Latchford, Warrington. A detached Victorian villa it was a project to keep me out of mischief. Then I met, fell in love with and married Rita, which led me to change my plans. I immigrated to Andalucía and sold Tunstall Villa to fund the purchase of our dream home in the Serranía de Ronda.
After our marriage in 2010 Rita and I began to actively look for our dream home together in the Serranía de Ronda. We found it – a delightful, rambling old property with a rock garden and a small pool in the heart of Gaucín, the balcony of the Serranía. However, we could not agree on an affordable price with the owners, so we had to let that go.
Then we found the real thing just outside Montejaque, the village where we were living. A single-storey villa with a pool and lots of land, it was beyond our means, yet we managed to agree on a price with one of the vendors, the husband in a divorcing couple. We were about to go to the Notary to complete the sale when all of a sudden everything fell apart, so, extremely disappointed, we walked away.
Shortly after this “disaster” we found our real dream home, where we still live today, nine years on.
Villa Indiana is a chalet bungalow in Fuente de la Higuera, in the campo just outside Ronda. It’s on level ground with a large garden and a swimming pool. We enjoy living there and our respective families and friends from the UK and Germany love to visit us, although no-one has been this year, of course, because of Covid-19.
So, we finally found la casa de nuestros sueños. Third time lucky, I reckon.
