Spain issues listeria health alert for a goat cheese sold in Lidl supermarkets

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued a health warning for the presence of the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes in the product Rulo de Cabra Cheese exclusively sold by Lidl supermarkets in Spain.

People who have bought the goat cheese are recommended to refrain from consuming it and return the product to the point of purchase.

The cheese has been distributed to Andalucia, Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia, Madrid, Murcia and the Valencian Community.

The German company JERMI, which packages and markets the product, detected Listeria monocytogenes in the course of its self-tests in the goat cheese product, which has been sold exclusively to Lidl.

You can consult the information that the Lidl company has passed on to consumers and in which it requests the return of the product «Jermi goat cheese roll», at the following link: www.lidl.es/es/devolucion-del-producto-queso-rulo-de-cabra-jermi/s3021

The affected product is:

It comes wrapped in plastic in units of 100 gr and refrigerated.

This information has been transferred by the AESAN to all the autonomous communities through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI) in order to verify the withdrawal of the affected products from the marketing channels.

With the information available, no case associated with this alert has yet been confirmed in Spain.

In the case of being pregnant, it is recommended to consult the recommendations for consumption during pregnancy made by the AESAN regarding important food hygiene practices for pregnant women, as well as a list of the foods that should be avoided during pregnancy because they are associated to certain biological resources (among which Listeria monocytogenes stands out).

Consumers are reminded of the importance of extreme hygiene measures to avoid cross-contamination to other products.
