Malaga’s provincial government prepares major budget amendment to fight effects of coronavirus

The Diputación de Málaga has been working for two weeks on a major modification of its budget in order to implement an extraordinary investment plan that contributes to alleviating the serious effects that the Covid-19 coronavirus health crisis is already causing. This year, the consolidated budget of the provincial institution amounts to 305.7 million euros.

The second vice president of the Diputación de Málaga, Margarita del Cid, has explained that in the last two weeks meetings have been held with all the delegations to restructure the budget items.

An analysis is being made of which items in the current budget will not be used this year due to the exceptional circumstances caused by the coronavirus or may no longer be a priority.

Margarita del Cid stresses that the reorganisation of the resources of the Provincial Council will be aimed at promoting the economic drive and dynamism of the province, especially in the most affected sectors, such as tourism and in general the entire service sector; to support aid to the most disadvantaged groups and to support small municipalities to recover from this situation.

The first decision adopted by the government team has tripled the budget for social aid, which will go from the 1.2 million provided to a total of 3,435,800 euros, which will go to three lines: coexistence and social insertion, adaptation of housing and birth aid.

The rest of the actions that are specified and included in the extraordinary plan can be started when the health crisis ends and the period of confinement passes.
