The Romería in Cortes de la Frontera is an annual cultural and religious pilgrimage celebrating the town’s patron saint, Nuestra Señora del Rosario. It seamlessly blends a sacred procession with a lively countryside fiesta, typically taking place in early June. The pilgrimage centres around the statue of the Virgin, which is carried or paraded from the town out into the surrounding countryside. Expect a vibrant atmosphere featuring horseback riders, decorated carts, the traditional coro (choir), communal outdoor dining, live bands, and DJs. The afternoon camp often hosts traditional Andalusian contests, including ‘carrera de cintas’ (ribbon races on horseback), children’s games, and the ‘concurso de garrocha’ (horsemanship and cattle-pole events). Locals dress in traditional Andalusian attire, with women wearing ‘trajes de flamenca’ costumes and men donning classic short riding jackets and wide-brimmed hats.
The municipal swimming pool in Montejaque generally opens for the summer season during the first or second week of June. While the exact dates vary slightly each year based on the weather and preparation schedules, local openings usually follow a consistent timeline. In recent years, the town hall (Ayuntamiento de Montejaque) has officially opened the season on dates ranging from 1 June to 17 June 17. The swimming pool summer season often launches with an official inaugural weekend featuring free entry until capacity is reached. The facility features a bar/café (Bar Piscina) serving food, drinks and tapas. For opening hours and admission prices please contact the town hall.
