CORONAVIRUS CRISIS: Regional government working on tourism plans to recover the market

The vice president of the Andalusian Government and Minister of Tourism, Regeneration, Justice and Local Administration, Juan Marín, has appeared before the Permanent Deputation of the Andalusian Parliament to report on the actions carried out by the Ministry that he presides over to alleviate the consequences derived from the health alert for the Covid-19 crisis.

“From this Government and from this Ministry we always act proactively. We address situations and work on actions to face this health crisis and also prepare a way out as soon as we can start working with a certain normality.”

Marín has detailed the actions that have been carried out in each of the competencies held by the Ministry he presides over.

In tourism, the Andalusian Vice President explained that, according to data from the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) for the next two months, economic losses would approach 6,000 million euros, which represents 30 per cent of the turnover of all year.

As for employment data, a brake of 25% of the activity would mean, Marín has said, the temporary or permanent dismissal of more than 55,000 workers in the sector.

To deal with this situation, the Tourism Minister has announced that different scenarios have been drawn up within the Action Plan for 2020.

Initially, work would be done to recover the Andalucian and national market, which represents 67 per cent of the visitors who came to Andalucia in 2019. “We must focus our efforts there to regain the confidence of tourists once this health crisis has passed.”

A second phase would involve addressing the international market, “it will be a difficult segment, but we will be on the front line when they resume their usual dynamics.”

For all this, a new tool has been incorporated that will allow identifying the evolution of the main tourism-emitting markets and detecting any symptom of reactivation that occurs in demand, either globally or towards Spain and Andalucia. This new instrument will allow contrasting two perspectives: that of the final consumer and that of the airlines.

“With this functionality at the moment in which anywhere in the world flight searches are activated or reservations are activated, we will know, and if we are interested, we will put our promotion there.”
