- Recent independence: The town hall achieved full self-governance recently. Following a 1994 referendum, it transitioned into an autonomous local entity in 1999, before completely separating from Ronda 19 on December 2014, to become Malaga province’s 103rd independent municipality.
- Political structure: The local municipal government consists of elected council members representing local groups, predominantly from the PSOE-A and the local group Más por Serrato (MxS).
- Headquarters: The main physical headquarters of the Ayuntamiento de Serrato is located at C/ Caminillo, 1, 29471 Serrato. The office is generally open from Monday through Friday from 8am to 3pm.
