The Corpus Christi celebration in Jimera de Líbar is one of the traditional religious and cultural festivities of this municipality in the Serranía de Ronda, celebrated every year during the month of June.
Main Corpus Christi traditions in the village
Floral carpets: The villagers meticulously decorate the main streets along the processional route. They create vibrant carpets using flowers, petals and aromatic herbs, filling the ‘pueblo blanco’ with a special fragrance.
Mass and procession: The main events begin with a solemn Mass at the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario (the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary) in the Plaza Virgen de la Salud. Afterwards, the procession of the Blessed Sacrament travels through the village streets. The children take centre stage: the boys and girls of Jimera who have celebrated their First Communion that same year play a very prominent role. They accompany the parade dressed in their communion outfits as a traditional symbol of purity and communal faith.
Neighbourhood altars: As in other towns and villages in the Serranía de Ronda area, it is common to set up small domestic or neighbourhood altars on façades and corners to receive the blessing along the route.
