COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS – Junta recommends the closure of all ‘non-essential’ businesses, beaches and parks in Andalucia to control the outbreak

After an extraordinary meeting of the Junta de Andalucia’s Governing Council today, the vice-president Juanma Moreno has called for the temporary, voluntary closure of all businesses in Andalucia that are ‘non-essential’.

Leisure centres, bars, gyms, discotheques, theatres and cinemas fall into this category but excluded are food shops, pharmacies and fuel service stations.

It is a recommendation, not an order, because, as Marín himself has acknowledged, the Andalucian government does not have the power to force businesses.

The Junta has also announced the closure of parks, gardens and community beaches.

The vice president of the Andalucian government has also appealed to those travelling from other autonomous communities to stay at home.

It has decreed the suspension of festivals or cultural programs of all kinds and, in general, any activity involving groups of people.

Marín has reminded the public that there are two numbers (900 400 061 / 955 545 060) to call for information so that 061 emergency health number is not overwhelmed.

“This is everyone’s responsibility,” Marín said, “to be able to get out of this as soon as possible.”

As of this moment, there are a total of 269 people in Andalucia who have tested positive for coronavirus: 128 in Malaga, 34 in Jaén, 29 in Seville, 22 in Granada, 21 in Cádiz, 18 in Córdona, 13 in Almería and 4 in Huelva.

There have been two deaths, both in Malaga. They were two elderly men with previous underlying health conditions.
